Scripture: “My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.” -2 Corinthians 12:9
There’s a special kind of confidence that comes with driving on “just a little bit more.” You see the gas light come on, and instead of responding responsibly, you begin negotiating. I can make it. It’s not that far. I’ve definitely gone farther on less. This is not logic. This is hope mixed with denial. I would like to say I have never tested the limits of a fuel gauge. I would also like to say I always drink enough water, get enough rest, and make wise decisions at all times. However… ahem, let’s just move along.
The truth is, there’s something strangely familiar about running on empty. You feel it in your body, in your thoughts, in your patience, and sometimes even in your prayers. You start the day fine, and by the end of it, even small things feel larger than they should. Still, we push, because stopping feels inconvenient—until stopping becomes unavoidable. That moment when the car gives its final sigh and everything goes still is not just inconvenient; it’s clarifying. You cannot coast forever.
Spiritually, we can drift into the same pattern. We pour out, press on, keep going, and quietly assume we can sustain ourselves just a little longer. But we were never meant to live that way. God does not ask us to run on empty and prove our endurance. He invites us to come and be filled. “My grace is sufficient for thee” is not a last-minute tow truck after we have broken down; it’s the steady supply we were meant to depend on all along. Grace is not the backup plan. It is the source.
If this Fireside Chat warmed your spirit and sparked fresh resolve to live what you believe, fan that flame with Scripture—“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly” (Colossians 3:16). Pull a little closer to the Light, and carry it into the week ahead.
