Scripture Focus: 1 Chronicles 16:11 “Seek the Lord and his strength, seek his face continually.”
There’s something steady and almost rhythmic about this verse—seek… seek… continually. It doesn’t rush you. It doesn’t overwhelm you. It simply invites you into a way of living.
Not a moment. A pattern.
We often think of seeking God as something tied to specific times—morning devotion, prayer before meals, maybe a quiet moment before bed. And those are beautiful anchors. But this verse gently stretches that idea. It’s not just seek the Lord… it’s seek His face continually.
That word continually means consistently. Like a thread woven through the whole fabric of your day. It’s about connection.
Think about how often we check things throughout the day—our phone, the time, the weather, notifications we probably didn’t need in the first place. There’s almost a reflex to it. Without thinking, we glance, we check, we return. What if seeking God became that natural? Not forced. Not formal. Just a quiet turning of the heart—again and again.
“Lord, help me here.”
“Thank You for that.”
“I need Your strength for this.”
Simple. Real. Ongoing.
And that’s where the second part comes in: “and his strength.” Because seeking isn’t just about closeness—it’s about dependence. It’s recognizing that what you’re facing today requires something deeper than your own reserves.
Some days feel manageable. Others feel like trying to run on empty while pretending everything’s fine. This verse doesn’t ask you to pretend. It gently reminds you—you don’t have to carry this alone.
His strength is not given in bulk for the week. It’s given in moments. Fresh. Present. Enough for what’s in front of you.
And then there’s this phrase—“seek his face.” Not just His help. Not just His answers. His face. That’s personal. It’s the difference between asking someone for directions… and actually walking beside them. One gives you information. The other gives you presence. God isn’t offering distant guidance—He’s offering Himself.
And sometimes, if we’re honest, we seek everything else first. Solutions, advice, reassurance, distractions… even snacks (because somehow everything feels more manageable with a snack). And then, when all else fails, we remember—Oh… I should probably pray.
But this verse gently flips that order. Seek Him first. Seek Him often. Seek Him continually.
Not because He’s demanding your attention—but because He knows your heart finds its steady place when it stays near Him.
Over time, this kind of seeking becomes less like a task… and more like breathing. Quiet. Constant. Life-giving.
Reflection Questions:
1. What do I naturally “check in with” throughout my day, and how might that reveal what I rely on most?
2. In what moments do I tend to forget to seek God’s strength—and why those moments in particular?
3. What simple, repeatable habit can I build into my day to turn my heart toward God more continually?
Prayer Prompt:
Lord, You have said, “Seek the Lord and his strength, seek his face continually,” and I see how often I drift instead of draw near. Teach me to turn to You in the small moments, not just the big ones. Remind me that Your strength is always available, and Your presence is always near. Help me to seek You—not out of routine alone, but out of love and trust. Let my heart come back to You again and again today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
If this devotional stirred your heart to follow Christ more closely and to walk with purpose, take the next step in His Word—“Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee” (Psalms 119:11). Keep your eyes on Jesus and let Scripture dwell richly in you day by day.
